Cumulative GPA is the overall grade point average of all the courses you have completed across every semester of your academic career. It is calculated by taking the total grade points you have earned and dividing them by the total credit hours you have attempted.
Every time you finish a new semester, your cumulative GPA updates. It goes up if you performed well. It comes down if you did not. Unlike your semester GPA which only reflects one term, your cumulative GPA is the complete picture of your academic performance from day one.
Universities use it for scholarship eligibility. Companies check it during placements. Graduate school admissions run on it. That single number carries a lot of weight.
A Cumulative GPA Calculator is a tool that combines your past academic history with your current semester grades and gives you your updated overall GPA in one click.
Our calculator also comes with a Target GPA Planner. So if you are aiming for a specific GPA, you can find out exactly what grades you need in your remaining credits to hit that goal.
If you have already completed some semesters, enter your current GPA and total credits earned so far. This section is optional. If you are calculating only for this semester, just leave it blank and move on.
Click on “+ Add Course” and enter your course name, grade, and credit hours. You can add as many courses as you need. There is no limit.
Click the Calculate Cumulative GPA button. Your result shows up instantly with your new cumulative GPA, your semester GPA, total new credits, and even a GPA difference so you can see if you improved or dropped.
After you get your result, click Reset and start fresh with new data. You can calculate as many times as you want.
Meet Sarah. He is in his 3rd semester. His cumulative GPA after completing 2 semesters is 3.2 and he has earned 30 credits so far. This semester he registered for 4 courses. Here is what his report looks like:
| Course Name | Grade Points | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Calculus 2 | A (4.0) | 4 |
| Physics | B+ (3.3) | 3 |
| English | A- (3.7) | 3 |
| Programming | B (3.0) | 4 |
He enters his past GPA (3.2) and past credits (30) in the optional section. Then he adds all 4 courses in the calculator. He clicks Calculate.
Our tool uses this formula for Calculation: Cumulative GPA = (Past GPA x Past Credits + Current Semester Points) / Total Credits
It depends on your goal. Generally a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and above is considered excellent and puts you in a strong position for scholarships, grad school, and campus placements. A GPA between 3.0 and 3.4 is good and still competitive.
